Hold onto your hoodies, folks. There may be a new speed-sailing record blowing in. Late last week in France, Alexandre Caizergues (France) and Rob Douglas (USA) set forth to break Douglas’ previous speed-sailing record of 55.65 knots.
Neither have done it yet, but it isn’t for lack of trying. Clocking multiple runs at over 50 knots on the 500m “Volkswagen Transporter Arena” course in Salin-de-Giraud, they’re giving event organizers and sponsors a reason to be proud.
Caizergues logged his best run at 54.84 knots (101.56 km/hr), with Douglas close behind at 54.35 knots. The speed sailing will continue throughout the month of March and into April. We’ll be watching with our fingers crossed.
