The Hang Ten is a must-know out-of-the-box (or boots rather) party trick that you have no reason not to try. In Airush’s latest Freestyle video Anthology, you will see Oswald Smith doing this trick at around 4:46. He thought it might be a great idea to break it down for you, in case you also wanted to try this on flat water!

For reference, this is what the trick looks like.

Steps Explained By Oswald Smith

STEP 1

You have to look for flatwater conditions. Any chop will cause loss of control and just tip-off.

STEP 2

Start riding with both your feet out of your boots, with your feet placed in between the two boots.

STEP 3

Move your front foot to the front of the board, while your back foot is still placed in the middle between the boots. This will set you up for the Hang 10.

STEP 4

Bare slight downwind, this way you get the board flat. It’s crucial that you do not edge during this trick.

STEP 5

Build up a comfortable amount of speed.

STEP 6

Make the move! Step forward with your back foot and enter the Hang 10 position.
