On the weekend of March 14th, Beach ‘N Board Fest along with sponsors Good Breeze Kiteboarding, Red Bull, DaKine and NeilPryde, introduces a foil surfing endurance race like no other. Here’s how it works: athletes paddle into waves to start and then work their way down the beach by riding multiple waves to an exit point. They must then work their way back up the beach to the starting area to complete one lap. The first rider to complete the designated number of laps wins the heat.

The entry fee is currently $40 for early registration and rises to $50 starting March 10th. With over $2,000 in cash and product prizes, if you’re in Cocoa Beach, FL the weekend of March 13th-15th, you’ve got to check it out.

Course OutlineRules

  • 4-6 competitors per heat
  • All non-foiling or surfing must be perpendicular to beach or upstream.
  • No paddling or running/walking downstream.
  • Athletes must be up on foil and connecting waves to move downstream. Competitors cannot paddle, swim, walk or run down the course toward the downstream marks. Only paddling toward shore and back out to catch waves is allowed.
  • Riders must have their boards and foil with them at all times (sup- must always have paddle with them)
  • Leashes must be worn while in the water. If it is removed to work way on foot, it must be put back on when entering water.
  • You must clear the boundary lines completely and receive green flag for the lap to count!

Start

  • lemans style, no contact with board, leash on.
  • paddle out perpendicular to beach, no entry to action area unless surfing/foiling
  • no paddling to down stream boundary

Two ways to complete a lap:

Prone-

1.)

  • surf and/or pump your way through the down stream boundary.
  • look for the line judge’s green flag for a verified boundary cross.
  • pump or surf back toward the upstream boundary.
  • if you come off foil while heading upstream, you must go straight in, perpendicular to beach and make way by foot to complete lap. You are not permitted to catch another wave or return to foil on upstream run.

2.)

  • surf and/or pump your way through the down stream boundary.
  • look for the line judge’s green flag for a verified boundary cross.
  • make your way to the beach and run around the downstream boundary flag before running to upstream boundary flag.
Sup/paddleboard-

1.)

  • surf and/or pump your way through the down stream boundary.
  • look for the line judge’s green flag for a verified boundary cross.
  • pump or surf back toward the upstream boundary.
  • if you come off foil while heading upstream, you must paddle or head to beach and continue by foot. You are not permitted to catch another wave or return to foil on upstream run.

2.)

  • surf and/or pump your way through the down stream boundary.
  • make your way to the beach and run around the down boundary flag before running to up stream boundary flag.

3.)

  • surf and/or pump your way through the down stream boundary.
  • if you choose to paddle back (not on foil) to the upstream boundary, you must round the downstream buoy first

Finish:

First person to do two complete laps wins (subjective to conditions)
Placement is 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc..
If a rider moving toward the upstream boundary crosses the finish line, time stops when he crosses the upstream boundary and verified by line judge as “green” flag.
