PISMO-KITEXPO-IMG_8574

Classic spring conditions are lining up for the 15th annual XBA Kitexpo, April 21-23. It’s gonna be good!

FORECAST: Strong to gale-force (25 to 38 mph) northwesterly winds along the California coastline will generate a 7- to 9-foot northwesterly (310-degree, deep-water) sea and swell (with a 5- to 14-second period) on Thursday into Sunday. A 1-foot Southern Hemisphere (205-degree, deep-water) swell (with a 22- to 25 second period) will arrive along the Central Coast on Thursday, building to 1 to 3 feet (with an 18- to 20-second period) on Friday into Saturday. A pattern of Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds developing during the night and morning hours and shifting out of the northwest during the afternoon hours will start Friday and will continue through Sunday. This condition will allow North County temperatures to warm into the 80s and perhaps the low 90s this weekend, while coastal valleys will range between the low to mid 80s. The beaches are expected to reach the 70s.

NO LAUNCHING OR LANDING SOUTH OF PIER AVE: This is a big deal! It’s snowy plover season. You can ride but absolutely cannot launch or land south of Pier Ave (southern beach access ramp)! If you cannot make it back upwind, land your kite in the water or walk back upwind in the water or you risk being ticketed and screwing it up for the locals.

NO PUBLIC PARKING ON GRAND AVENUE ACCESS RAMP: This is another big deal! State Parks has put some major restrictions on the event this year, due to chaotic parking last year along the ramp. Public beach parking is one the SOUTH SIDE (left) of the ramp only, BEHIND THE FENCING!!!!  Absolutely no parking in front of the fencing or you risk being ticketed and putting this event in jeopardy.

IN THE WORKS: Red Bull’s CHAPTER ONE and other short clips at the beach bonfire Saturday night! Dependent on wind/fog/weather.
