The first stop of the second annual KiteFoil Gold Cup 2015 (KFGC) will be held on March 22 – 28, 2015, in La Ventana, Mexico. Sanctioned by the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA), Playa Central Beach Club will host the world’s top hydrofoil kiteboarders, various hydrofoil brands and kite brands attending the Expo, on March 22-23. The Expo will feature top brands’ latest products and technologies. Manufacturers attending the event include: F4, Taaroa, Levitaz, Ozone, F-One, Sword, with more participants pending confirmation.
Robbie Dean is Technical Director of the IKA and Race Director for the regatta, alongside Jessica
Barhydt as Race Secretary and Grant Baldwin, Head of Jury. Top kiteboard racing photographer Michael Petrivok will also be flying in from Amsterdam to capture the highlights of the event.
The tour will kick off with the sound of the Mexican national anthem performed by the Mexican
Navy. The KFGC is supported by local authorities in La Ventana and all are looking forward to how
this event will evolve, bringing more and more international riders to the Sea of Cortez in
the future. Governor Marcos Alberto Covarrubias Villasenor, Mayor Esthela Ponce of Baja California
Sur, and Director of Tourism Sandra Felix, are impressed by the event and have been invited to attend the races to gain knowledge on the sport and how it can stimulate local tourism for the state.
International athletes from 10 countries have registered so far representing Mexico, USA, Canada, Venezuela, Colombia, Great Britain, France, Austria, Spain, and Uruguay. Early registration
closes March 8, but Playa Central will still be registering competitors until Monday, March 23, 2015.
The KiteFoil Gold Cup 2015 in La Ventana is managed and organized by Playa Central – a venue
dedicated to the sport of kiteboarding which caters to wind seekers in the middle of the bay. Playa
Central opened in October 2010 and has since become a host for World Class and International
competitions for kiteboarding.
La Ventana has become the inaugural home of this circuit. This perfectly carved bay attracts the top
hydrofoilers to train and compete in ideal conditions. A consistent breeze, sandy beaches, perfect
water depth and the mountain/desert view create a paradise for beginner, amateur and
