F-ONE announced the latest addition to their International Team this week, Romain Castel.
Romain is an 18 year old French kitesurfer with a strong start in foiling. As a native of South France, Romain enjoys all disciplines, although for the past two years, he’s been consistently focused on foil boarding, and his dedication shows. He’s racking up titles throughout his home country and likely on his way to securing a few more. Career highlights include:
- Ninth (9th) Overall on the first stage of the Foil World Championships 2014
- First (1st) place in the youth division at the French Speed Championships 2014
- First (1st) place in the first stage of the French Speed Crossing Championship 2014
- First (1st) place at Mondial du Vent 2014 – Long Distance
- First (1st) place at the First French Speed Crossing 2013 (youth division)
Also a fan of speed competitions (last September, he took first in the youth category of the National French Speed Championships), we look forward to seeing more from this talented young rider.
What are your favorite kite spots?
The spots in the area, I love “La Grande Motte” with South-East wind and “Plage-Sud” with North-West wind.
What is your best memory of kiting and foil boarding, and why?
My best memory is the “Mondial du Vent” because this year we had more than 60 knots and I sailed with my foil and my 4m!!! In kitesurf it was when I jumped above the white dune in Dakhla. An excellent memory!
How long have you been kiting and foiling?
I’m doing kitesurf for 4 years now and foil for 2 years.
You are a true competitor. What is your program this 2014/2015 year?
My program is to continue the French speed crossing championship and the foil.
How do you see your integration in the F-ONE team?
I see it with a lot of ambition. I will participate to the development of the foil. This is really good because I’m directly in contact with the R&D team. We will push the gear on his limits in order to have powerful tools.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to ride enormous waves in Hawaï and why not in foil!
