The Kiteboarder Magazine Volume 10, Number 2 features a trip to the Grenadine Islands with the Epic Kites team. Want to do a similar trip? Here’s what you need to know.
How to Get There
Fly to Union Island Airport (UNI) via Barbados. Make your reservation for the flight from Barbados to Union before anything else. Check SVG Air. They only have a few flights a day and are booked by some of the resorts in the high season, so it can be difficult to get a seat if you’re traveling with a group.
Best Season
January, February, and March are the windiest months.
Typical Conditions
It varies depending on the exact spot, but the wind is generally in the 16-25 mph range. Direction depends on the location.
Local Transportation
There is no organized local transportation, but most of the lodging is within walking distance of town. If you need to rent a vehicle the best bet would be to contact Erika’s Marine Services or Linn at the Anchorage Yacht Club.
Recommended Places to Stay
Anchorage Yacht Club (Next to the JT Pro Center, $)
Rent a small house from Erika’s Marine Services or Grenadine Villas ($$)
Stay on nearby Palm Island or Petit St. Vincent ($$$$)
Food
Captain Gourmet is the best place for breakfast and lunch plus groceries and wine/liquor. Also check out Big Citi, West Indies Restaurant (French), Bougainvillea Marina Restaurant, and the Anchorage Yacht Club. This is a remote area, so expect canned veggies at most places.
