This unique event will gather important national and international figures to participate in each of the different disciplines. A winner will be selected in each of the individual sports, but most important of all, there will be the coronation of the athlete who has the highest combined score from all three events. This person, who will have shown an unparalleled mastery of each discipline, will become the 2008 Master of the Ocean.

While each of the athletes put all their efforts in completing radical maneuvers and jumps, the crowd will have the opportunity to enjoy it with sound of different national and international DJs who will mix up their music throughout the day, and will also perform at various parties each night.

Among the competitors of this magnificent event are James Otis from the US, defending his Overall title. Michael Guzmán, overall defending champion of Master of the Ocean 2003, and 2nd in 2004, Luciano González 3rd Red Bull King of the Air 2003 and José Luis Ciraco 2nd Cabarete Kite World Cup 2004, outstanding kiteboarders professionals; Joseph Carneiro, Brasil national champion in kitesurf; Susi Mai, winner of the Red Bull King of the Air 2003 and 2004 in Hawaii; Tony García, professional windsurfer and local hero winner of the first place in the Aloha Classic 2001 in Maui, Hawaii;
Marco Diaz, last years winner in the surf category, as well as Brandon Sanford and Pedri Fernandez will be back for the 2006 Master of the Ocean.
From Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 of February, the classification competitions will take place for the main event, which will start the elimination rounds, and the finals from Friday February 29 to Sunday March 2nd. Monday, March 3rd stays as the reserve.

Playa Encuentro, located only 4 kilometers from the center of Cabarete and a short distance from neighboring Sosua and Puerto Plata, is known internationally for its excellent natural conditions for surfing, and has been a popular choice to film promotional videos. The combination of the water temperature, consistently warm climate, wind direction, offshore strip of coral, and sandy bottom makes possible the formation of world class waves. Over the years windsurfing and kitesurfing experts discovered that the conditions at this spot were also excellent for the practice of their respective sports. Additionally, they found that the months of February and March have the best combination of excellent waves and wind, thus allowing the simultaneous practice of surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.

Through the years and thanks to the curiosity and the study of windsurf and kitesurf experts, it was discovered that conditions at this spot were excellent also for the practice of these last two sports, and moreover, that during the months of February and March unique conditions of waves and wind took place thus allowing the simultaneous practice of Surf, Windsurf and Kitesurf.

Criteria of the Judges:
The judges will give points to the various maneuvers and jumps that the competitors manage to complete in each of the three sports. The athletes will remain in the water for about 20 minutes per round, in groups of four competitors per heat. Only the two best per heat will continue on to the next round. In the end, the winner of each individual sport will be announced, as well as the overall winner. The overall winner, who has accumulated the most combined points, will be crowned Master of the Ocean 2008.
