The Mitu Pro has been known for its super agile and reactive outline with its distinct swallow tail making it very easy to initiate turns and carve every kind of surf. The shape has been improved this year with lateral flat sections on the bottom as well as a flat section on the bottom between your front and back foot. The rocker line allows a better edge control and an overall improved feeling in all conditions. This year, volume, stability and float are perfectly balanced for a board which surfs better than never before. The board smooths out rough situations and makes you stay on the water longer.

For strapless airs, the Carbon construction is light and sticks to your feet. Its high-speed ability leads to easy planing and extra stability makes it a fantastic strapless freestyle board. The largest sizes have a bit more emphasis on the planing ability and general stability, while the smaller sizes have more focus on maneuverability. All share the same shape features, with their specific outline to make the most of the wave’s energy.

When the Mitu Pro shows up in our testing inventory it always brings a smile, but when the carbon version of the Mitu Pro lands in our hands, its cause for a full-on rip party. This year the bottom shape has evolved once again with a straightforward design that does away with channels/spines and completes the transition back to a simple concave hull with a new rocker line. The one thing that stays the same is the HD foam core and carbon wrap job that results in an extremely lightweight board that combines high-performance surf with a capable aerial game.

Design and Features
This year, the Mitu Carbon design team has succeeded in shedding weight while also ensuring the board doesn’t feel too stiff or tinny. The Mitu has a comfortable ride with a little bit of flex, so there’s enough softness that you don’t get the jarring sensation you might otherwise from a full carbon layup. The Mitu comes with a three-part deck pad featuring fine corduroy EVA that gives good traction, a little less plushness in feel but excellent feedback from the deck. The kick on the tail pad is generously sized so your back foot is protected from slipping off and there’s a small bump on the front pad for keeping your front foot in safe territory. Just remember that the Mitu Carbon saves weight in every place possible and the inserts for straps is one of those weight savers that makes this a pure strapless board.

Impressions
When we first got the Mitu Carbon on the water, we noted that the 5’6” felt a little faster and more efficient through the water. It seemed like the rail and edge control felt more stable at higher speeds giving us more confidence while edging up wind or on a high speed carve. With its narrow swallow tail, the Mitu has always been incredibly reactive and this latest version snapped turns just as easy when you applied weight into the tail, but felt like the initiation into turns was even smoother. If previous Mitu’s were super active and responsive at every angle, this Mitu was more settled in a straight line, yet it was ready to turn as aggressively when you wanted and this felt like an improvement that most riders will embrace. The Mitu came with F-One’s M Flow Fins which deliver a good balance between grip and hold while still being able to break loose without a ton of back foot pressure. During hard bottom turns the fins felt engaged with really solid and dependable grip and in the pocket the Mitu could carve tight snaps and release on command.

When it comes to aerials and strapless freestyle, the carbon construction makes the board super nimble and flickable which opens up endless possibilities. The tail rocker makes it easy to launch off any piece of chop and the weight is light enough that the board will levitate and stay stuck to your feet like glue. While F-One makes a dedicated strapless freestyle board (Magnet) for those riders wanting to defy physics, the Mitu in carbon construction is the go to board for the rider who wants to combine high quality wave riding with a serious aerial game. F-One also makes the Mitu in a flex and bamboo construction, both of which have a very different feel and weight tradeoffs, but for the rider who prizes aerials and the lightest board possible in a performance surf shape, the Mitu Pro Carbon cannot be beat.
