Three weekends ago at the 2016 King of the Air, Lewis Crathern took what was probably the biggest crash we’ve seen in kiteboarding competition. He remained in an ICU unit in Cape Town for two weeks, but the great news is that he has been released, is looking and sounding great and is expected to make a full recovery.

Lewis recalls, “Whilst competing at the 2016 RedBull King of The Air I never imagined I would end up in an Induced Coma for a week. These last 3 weeks have been a real eye opener and I am facing many challenges, however I am in high spirits thanks to the amazing support I am receiving Worldwide from the general public & the kitesurfing community.”

Lewis has recovered enough to leave hospital, but in many ways, the hard work of recovery starts for him now. Moving forward, he needs a considerable amount of continuing care and specialist rehabilitation to be able to return to his previous professional athletic level. Due to time off the water, travel practicalities and family support time combined with other elements of his work, including school visits and charitable work that he’d like to continue, Lewis needs a little extra financial help from anyone who feels they’d like to.

Knowing this is a lot to ask of the kiting community, Lewis has asked all his sponsors for a prize contribution and he will randomly select several people who are kind enough to donate any amount at all, to possibly win:

  • 1 x North Kiteboarding Xride twin-tip complete with NTT bindings
  • 2 x WOO devices & 2 x Woo caps
  • 2 x Mystic T Shirts & a hoody
  • 10 x Windguru Pro Accounts
