The 8th Annual Windvibes charity event in Turks and Caicos had hundreds of spectators lining Long Bay Beach and nine teams competing in this year’s competition, making it the largest multiple-watersports event on the Islands. The proceeds from this event benefit a local charity organization of the winning team’s choice. Last year’s initiative supported the TCSPCA’s Spay Neuter Program.
Windvibes packs five main competitions into one day: kiteboarding, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming, along with the team challenge. Individuals compete in each category for fun and bragging rights while local businesses compete against each other for the charity fundraising efforts.
The day began with steady winds and sunny skies in the upper teens to low 20’s. Taking advantage of the wind, founder and organizer Hope Levin kicked things off with the freestyle kiteboarding competition, followed by the remainder of the disciplines and ending with the team challenge in swimming, stand up paddle boarding and kayaking. This year’s winning team chose the Aids Foundation of Turks and Caicos as the local beneficiary charity with a check for $1267.
A fun, family-oriented event for all to enjoy in a beautiful, tropical location with crystal clear water and white sandy beaches, plans are already in the works to expand this event for 2015. Stay tuned!
Special thanks to the title sponsors local eco-tourism company, Big Blue Unlimited who provided a fleet of kayaks and Naish stand up paddle boards, along with Blue Haven Villas and www.visitTCI.com
