The Dice is a brand new kite for 2014, aimed at the rider wanting a do it all machine with C-Shape flying characteristics. The Dice is a 3-strut medium aspect kite that North markets for all around performance including wakestyle, freestyle and the waves. We tested the Dice as four-line kite (it can be rigged in a five-line configuration). The Dice features North’s large diameter inflation valve that connects directly with the standard pump hose without the use of a nozzle. The inflation system’s hand operated twist valve is easy to use and makes inflating and packing up quick and easy. Testers found the Dice to have medium bar pressure, slightly heavier than the Evo, but praised its direct steering response, downwind drift and above average boost and hang time. Testers felt the Dice had less low end grunt compared to the Evo, but accelerated quicker and builds more power with sweeping style turns. Testers found the Dice to be stable with quick yet predictable steering and recommend this kite for those looking for a lively but dependable kite for freestyle and surfing in the waves.
The Dice came with the Quad Bar which is a four-line bar featuring a push away quick release, above bar depower cleat, sliding stopper, single center line safety depower, hand operated quick release swivel and adjustable length bar ends (42, 49cm or 46, 53cm). North has done an excellent job of integrating tons of functional and innovative features while keeping the design clean and the overall weight down. Testers praised the comfortable grip and soft integrated bar floats, as well as the clean internal design for adjusting outside line lengths. The center lines were easy to untwist by hand just above the quick release and the shorter throw keeps the controls within reach and covers the full power range of the Dice for a compact and crisp bar setup.
