JN Says:

JN proudly presents the new Prima Donna, the 5th generation of the legendary freestyler. The pure performance oriented C-shape we refined in all sizes, applied the richest fabrics only to save weight and enhance durability. The strictly applied floating batten system and perfect round arc shape allow a wind-adapted profile. The rider profits from a larger wind range of its kite and smoother, secure handling also in gusty conditions. The “perfect round arc shape”, possible only thanks to our continuously further developed hard- and software, reduces performance-inhibiting air turbulence and stabilizes your kite at any winds. The well balanced construction of Prima Donna helps you when riding onshore conditions or doing radical jumps by a friendly leeward drifting and still turn able kite whenever lines have less tension. Kite profiles, individually adapted to the respective wind speed, make each kite size unique and specifically designed for its range. Prima Donna is offered in a complete size range which makes it easier for all disciplines, genders and weight of riders to tailor their perfect quiver.

Our Testers Say:

“Stable, very fast and direct handling. The 10m felt more like an 8m in terms of both turning speed and low-end power. Bar grip was too rough for me,” Joe Bharat.

“Quick, immediate handling with light bar pressure. Smooth power delivery. Really fun to ride powered up,” Paul Lang.

“Very fast and direct. Power remains steady during turns. Great jumps and easy to get upwind on when powered, but low-end wasn’t that great,” Gary Martin.

Meet the 2013 TKB Test Team.

TKB Says:

While many riders are not familiar with JN Kites they are a long-time brand that did not have a presence in the US until just recently. The 2013 JN Prima Donna is a 5-line mid-aspect 5-strut kite with a C-kite profile. Our testers reported very fast turning, immediate response, and light bar pressure.

They also commented on the kite’s smooth power delivery and very good jumping performance, as long as the kite is ridden powered up. According to our testers the Prima Donna does not have great low-end power and rides like a kite about one size smaller.

The Prima Donna uses the JN Master Craft Bar. It features adjustable ends, an above-bar trim cleat, a push-away safety release, and a unique rigid plastic harness loop. When you release the safety, it releases onto the 5th line, which instantly kills all the power in the kite. Some testers commented that the knobby grip was a little too aggressive on their hands.

Pros:

  • Very fast and direct handling.
  • Fifth line safety system is still considered one of the safest control systems available.

Cons:

  • Bar grip was a little too aggressive for some testers.
  • The Prima Donna does not have great low-end power.
  • Five lines can take more time to untangle than four.
