PKRA St. Peter Ording, Germany, Day 1: Freestyle Trials

The PKRA riders where very impressed by the conditions in St Peter Ording, Germany today. They hope that it will stay this way the entire week as we enjoyed perfect sunshine and strong winds, with conditions starting from 9-12 knots this morning and improving to 16-18 knots toward the middle of the trials.

PKRA Tenerife Kite Masters Results

This was a beautiful week of wind and sunshine in El Medano, Tenerife. We’ve had five days of action in which to pick the best four male and best two female riders who got into the finals today. The competition started with 25 knots side shore winds and nice waves rolling into the bay.

PKRA Tenerife Kite Masters Day 4 Update

It has been a long day of action here in Tenerife, with the wind quickly picking up to 25-30 knots for the fourth day of Kite Master’s action. Head Judge Sami Gali was impressed by the amount of high jumps, which resulted from the conditions, “Height and power are the most important factors in this competition and we saw some great displays of both today.”

PKRA Tenerife Kite Masters Update: Youri Zoon Lands 900

Today another 16 heats of the Tenerife Kite Masters 2011 were disputed here in El Medano. According to Race Director Olaf Van Tol the riders are now getting used to the conditions, “This afternoon we began to see some higher board offs as the riders used the nice kickers which line the spot.”

PKRA Fuerteventura 2011 Final Results

The last day of competition welcomed the competitors with the most extreme conditions a kiteboarder can expect in Fuerteventura: 35 to 45 knots in the ongoing gusts and choppy waters. As usual on the PKRA we were again surprised by the level the riders can reach in these conditions.

PKRA Fuerteventura Day 3: Zoon and Pulido Win Single Eliminations

After two days of competition here in Fuerteventura for the PKRA Kiteboarding World Tour, we entered the second part of the single eliminations. This was going to be the most exciting day with only the very best riders left to compete in the strong winds of Sotavento. The men’s division started with the quarter finals in 30 knots conditions which according to Brazilian rider Reno Romeu (BRA, North) made the spot a little choppy with a kicker on the inside.

PKRA Fuerteventura Day 1:24 Spots, 32 Competitors, Throw Down Ensues

Day 1 started with trials since the competition only had 24 spaces for men and 32 registered (along with 9 women0. The top 8 men automatically qualified, and all the rest had to go into qualifiers where only 16 men could advance into the main event which starts tomorrow.

Freestyle World Champion Andy Yates Injured

The PKRA Freestyle World Champion 2010, Australian Andy Yates, recently injured his shoulder while training at home. As a result, Andy won’t be able to compete in the next three events.

PKRA Leucate: Pulido and Zoon Take Single and Double Elimination Titles

The sun was out this morning welcoming the howling 25-35+ knot wind. Riders prepared their smallest kites for what was a day of astounding kiteboarding action. The competition level this year is extremely high making it mandatory for all riders to perform at the best of their ability.

Winning doesn't come easy, and it can be stressful when things don't run smoothly. "When I arrived here in Australia, I really wanted to push it and train hard, but then you get back on the water, and it's just a lot of frustration!"

PKRA Morocco Final Results

It was a great final day in Dakhla, Morocco. Riders prepared their 10-14m kites for the continuation of the men and women freestyle double eliminations, which began early this morning under cloudy skies with winds averaging 15 knots. The conditions were stable for the last round of heats.

PKRA Mexico Wrap Up and Final Results

It was yet another beautiful, hot sunny day in Riviera Maya, Mexico. A large crowd of spectators scattered along the beach this morning in hopes of catching a glimpse of all the non-stop kiteboarding action.

Close Up: Karolina Winkowska

When she was just 13 she tried kiteboarding for the first time with her dad, who attached her to a rope so she wouldn’t fly away. Now Karolina is 20 and travels the globe on the PKRA circuit, finishing the 2010 season in second place in freestyle.

The busy calendar promises to be an exiting professional kiteboarding season visiting 5 continents, with 9 freestyle events, 6 wave events and 6 racing events. Final World Rankings for 2010

After the last events of the season, the final rankings for 2010 in all disciplines have been published. The overall world cup winners are: Andy Yates / Gisela Pulido (Freestyle), Bruno Sroka / Steph Bridge (Course Racing) and Guilly Brandao / Gisela Pulido (Wave Riding).
