IKA has released a press release today announcing that they have proposed a Formula Kite class for kiteboarding Olympic competition. This is a box rule meaning that any equipment that meets the IKA's guidelines can be used.
Today the International Sailing Federation voted to include kiteboarding in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Not only is kiteboarding in, but windsurfing is out as there are a limited number of medals that can be given to sailing sports.

Within the event the inaugural Kite Cross World Championship was held. While there were run-away leaders in some classes, including double Olympic Tornado medallist Mitch Booth in the F18 catamaran, the closest finish across the whole competition was in the men’s kiteboarding competition.
By winning this event and the fifth one in a row, Youri Zoon takes home his first world champion title! Youri commented “I couldn’t be happier, it’s hard to believe, I’ve been fighting for so long now, I had my knee injuries that have held me back for a while but now, finally I got it! Super stoked!”
The same thing happened in the girls with Gisela Pulido (ESP, Airush) taking her fourth PKRA World Title.
After a week of sun and light wind conditions, today the typical German weather returned to St. Peter Ording beach. Along with the cloud and rain came a steady twenty knots of wind in which we watched the best PKRA kiteboarders compete on the North Sea.
