Cabrinha is seeking a Product Designer/Engineer to work with all aspects of kiteboarding product design and engineering with the main focus on control systems and accessories, from ideation, specification, to industrialization. The focus will be on ensuring that all products meet strict quality demands, value objectives, target costing, and performance requirements within budget limits and timeline set by the Product Development Manager.

The position is including, but not limited to, maintaining vendor relationships, qualifying potential factories, QC, and negotiating costing.

Areas of Responsibility:

Product Development

  • Concept development via sketching and brainstorming with design team
  • Building and testing prototypes
  • Designing/constructing functional and aesthetic aspects while ensuring structural integrity of products
  • Factory communication and follow up
  • Aid in sourcing
  • Run point on testing of new materials
  • Aid in the development of all product-related marketing

Lab and Fieldwork

  • Work with the PD Management team to specify and compile results from product testing in the lab and field
  • Report on product on-water testing results in format specified
  • Report on all vendor visits

QA & QC

  • Defining functional and optical boundaries in cooperation with the PD management team
  • Develop and implement QC protocols and procedures in cooperation with the PD management team
  • Assist in Quality improvement processes set by PD Management team
  • Assist in defining bill of material, including related documents

Technical/professional skills:

  • Extensive CAD (Solidworks preferred) knowledge and experience (surfacing experience a plus)
  • Proficient in MS office package
  • Hands-on experience
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials
  • Great communication skills through sketching

Personal skills (requirements):

  • Ability to work and live in the US
  • Ability and willingness to travel in Asia/internationally for third party- and raw material suppliers
