Patagonia has worked with contest organizers to require an equal prize purse for the 2018 contest and with Patagonia’s history of championing gender equality and “using business to inspire” we hope to use this as a starting point for equal pay at all competitive events that we will support moving forward.

“The Patagonia Surf team is committed to recognizing every athlete, no matter gender, for their outstanding athletic abilities and equal pay is part of that recognition,” notes Jason McCaffrey, Patagonia’s Director of Surf. “At the Wave Classic, the conditions don’t change by gender so why should the prize money?”

The 2018 Cape Hatteras Wave Classic is a wave-focused kitesurfing event held September 15th”“21st in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. It is an open event and it will be divided into two divisions: Men’s Open and Women’s Open. Riders will be scored on Wave Riding (50%), Tricks (25%), and Overall Impression (25%). You can register in person at REAL Watersports on Saturday, September 15th from 4pm to 6pm.
