WMFG started out two years ago by introducing the kite market to the new higher volume pumps and today it’s rare to see anything but this style of pump on any beach worldwide. The company has since expanded to board traction and for the 2018 lineup there’s a new pump design and bag line in the mix. Founder Matt Aiken tells us what’s next for WMFG.

WMFG WAS THE FIRST TO BRING THE NEW GENERATION OF HIGHER VOLUME PUMPS TO THE MARKET TWO YEARS AGO. WHAT DID YOU LEARN WITH YOUR FIRST PRODUCTS AND HOW DOES THE 2018 PUMP DIFFER?

Time flies. It was 2016 when the 1.0T launched, followed by the 2.0T this year and there will be a third generation 3.0T in early 2018. There are lots of very similar pumps on the market but what WMFG delivers is a pump with the greatest range of kite-fit, premium parts and features. Compared to other brands, WMFG pumps have the most nozzles, the best hose, and some extra parts. The new 3.0T will continue to deliver on this and offer some upgrades over the 2.0T.

YOU ALSO HAVE A NEW DOUBLE BARREL PUMP CALLED THE 2.0D. WHO IS THIS STYLE OF PUMP TARGETED AT?

It’s the biggest, fastest, heaviest and most expensive kite pump on the market and as far as I know, WMFG is the only brand offering this big bastard. For sure, it’s not for everyone””size, weight and price being what it is””but for kite schools, reps doing demos, or for

riders who can set up on the beach next to their vehicle this pump is pretty awesome. It’s about twice as fast as a normal pump and we’re fired up to have it in the line. Personally, I don’t travel with it, but there’s always one in my truck and all my buddies are pretty stoked to use it when I pull up to the beach.

FOR THE 2018 LINE, WMFG HAS ADDED BOARD BAGS TO ITS PRODUCT OFFERINGS. TELL US MORE.

We have a really simple and high quality line of bags for 2018. WMFG traction has a really great niche providing pads for the stubby style boards so it made sense to add the Stubby board bag to fit this style of board. It’s available in two sizes, small and large. We also have a one-size-fitsmost bag for traditional-shaped boards called the Classic; it will fit boards in the 5’6” 6’ range. We have a big coffin style wheeled bag intended for the stubby style boards, it will fit one to two stubby boards and up to three kites. We also have a really functional kite bag. It’s like a compression bag but has some more features that will let riders use it as their full time kite bag. They’ll be great for trips as they are lighter and less bulky than the bags most kite brands provide, but have the straps and pockets you need when you get to your destination.

WE HEARD A RUMOR THAT WMFG IS DEVELOPING KITESURF FINS. CAN YOU TELL US MORE OR TOO EARLY?

It’s a bit of a passion project and is taking way more time than it should. There’s not too much to say yet, but we’re working on a really simple fin concept that will really tie together our deck pad and board bag collection.
