While Nobile is most well-known for its award winning line of kiteboards, the  European based kite brand also builds a full line of kites and now foilboards. Nobile’s  in-house manufacturing division produces a surprisingly large number of boards by other brands throughout the kiteboarding industry. The Nobile team answers our questions about the 2018 lineup.

NOBILE’S STAPLE KITES, THE 50/FIFTY AND THE T5, RECEIVED SOME  REFINEMENTS FOR 2018. WHAT CHANGES WERE MADE AND WHICH  CONDITIONS ARE EACH BEST IN?

The T5 features new Teijin double ripstop, which had been tested in the most difficult conditions. It is super durable and resistant to mechanical damage, as well as climactic conditions, such as salt water, high temperature and sand. We also improved the construction of the middle strut. This has translated into the flight stability and support in the middle part of the canopy””the kite keeps its shape perfectly and has better responsiveness during wave riding.

Dacron belts on the canopy helped us strengthen the construction and profile the shape of the  2018 T5 better, which achieved significant improvement of the kite’s flying properties. Extra reinforcements round out the changes to this model, which prove themselves especially during wave riding.

The 50//Fifty which also features our new Teijin double ripstop, has been tested in the most difficult conditions.  It is super-durable and resistant to mechanical damage, as well as the unfavorable conditions such as salt water, high temperatures and sand. We additionally modified the 50/Fifty’s canopy profile in order to achieve the optimal performance and in combination with its modified leading edge shape, the kite is incredibly stable and offers a better lower wind range.

NOBILE HAS A DEEP LINE OF 14 TWIN TIP MODELS. WHAT CHANGES WERE MADE TO  THE LINE AND WHY AND HOW DOES NOBILE DETERMINE WHAT BOARDS IT DECIDES  TO MAKE INTO SPLITBOARDS?

The biggest change has been made to our splitboards. This year we introduced the 4th generation of our  W-Connection patented solution. The improved connection has been redesigned from scratch. Its shape has been changed completely which resulted in better distribution of the force. Furthermore, a new shape allows precise connecting and comfortable disconnecting from the board. Some of the connections constructional elements have been reduced as well, while others have been replaced with durable composite. This has resulted in reduced weight, improved stiffness and durability in connection points, as well as keeping the natural properties of the board, so the connection won’t impact comfort during the ride.

W-Connection is Nobile”˜s patented solution. We choose NHP, Flying Carpet and our Infinity foil and surfboard to split. So you have one of the best boards ever made in kiteboarding, the NHP, the NHP Carbon for connoisseurs, the Flying Carpet for light wind conditions and the Infinity surf/wave boards with an amazing sandwich construction that guarantees high resistance to damage. Finally, we have the only splitboard dedicated to hydrofoiling. The Infinity Foil and regular splitboard can be used separately (without hydrofoil) to surf on waves””it is just really great fun!

NOBILE LAUNCHED THE INDUSTRY’S FIRST FOIL SPLITBOARD LAST SEASON AND  CREATED A 5’2” VERSION OF THE INFINITY SPLIT SURFBOARD FOR ITS PLATFORM.  WERE ANY CHANGES MADE TO THE FOIL AND IS THE 5’2” AVAILABLE AS A  STANDALONE PRODUCT IN ADDITION TO THE 5’9” INFINITY SPLIT SURFBOARD?

As mentioned previously, this year we introduced the 4th generation of our W-Connection patented solution so all splitboards are now stronger than ever. We also used CAP construction which has a box-type structure,  where the edge of a wooden wedge is fully secured with a laminate. The boards are thus lighter, stiffer and much more resistant to breakage. Both the 5’2” and 5’9” are dual purpose and can be ridden with or without the foil.    NOBILE HAS A VERY UNIQUE FOOTPAD/ STRAP SYSTEM THAT REQUIRES NO TOOLS  FOR ASSEMBLY. DID ANYTHING CHANGE  ON YOUR CLICK AND GO DESIGN?

We have developed the IFS as the next step forward for  Nobile. Built of light EVA foam, our new IFS Click and  Go Gen 2 binding are not only light and don’t absorb water, but they are also comfortable and user-friendly.  Their major advantage is their comfort and ability to adapt to any foot shape. The ergonomic shape has been re-designed””the pad surface is the reflection of the human foot and combined with flexible plastic material to ensure even better foot grip during the ride, which gives you solid control over your board.  In addition, the platform at the toes improves control over the board and precision in transferring the body movement to the board. Newly designed straps firmly hold the foot in the pad without any uncontrolled movements while additional pads on the edges improve the comfort in the most delicate foot parts. Another layer was also added in the toe area in order to press the toes to the pad surface. Ecoleather guarantees the quality and solidity of the product, the neoprene inside improves the comfort, while the wide Velcrofastened buckle makes the whole fastening solid and reliable. The strap itself is fastened inwards, which was proved by the ergonomics tests””it is also less prone to accidental catching in your kite lines. The pad base made of solid plastic has four installation holes which allow riders to change the angle of attaching them to the board, according to user preferences.
