North Says:

Simply put, the Evo is the all-round maestro from the North Kiteboarding range. We’ve done things different by giving this freeride machine 5 struts instead of 3 struts because with our 5-strut design that has been refined year after year, we’ve achieved a kite that offers up an exceptional wind range, greater stability, superior depower and progressive sheet and go characteristics.

If you’re looking for one kite to do it all then look no further, the Evo will have you flying high like Tom Hebert, coming in hot at the line-up and slashing waves or simply freeriding. For those looking to ride unhooked every now and again, it has just the right amount of freestyle performance you’re looking for. Riding waves, you’ll be surprised by the turning and drift. The Evo is not the “jack of all trades.” It’s the master of them all.

Our Testers Say:

“A stable kite that was easy to handle in light, gusty winds,” Rob Shea.

“Quick turning and nimble kite that is wonderful for riding waves and carving big turns with confidence,” Tom Fristoe.

“A steady, powerful kite that is fast and smooth as butter. With lots of power on demand this high performance kite is great for pushing your freestyle,” Davey Beard.

NORTH-EVO-2016-GEAR-REVIEW-02

TKB Says:

The 2016 Evo is a 5-strut delta shaped 4-line kite with a medium aspect canopy that North markets for hooked-in freestyle and all around freeriding. This year North made subtle changes to its inflation valve, beefing up its internal parts to make for a quick and reliable inflation every time. North’s large diameter inflation valve connects directly with the standard pump hose without the use of a nozzle and the inflation system’s twist valve rotates with the insertion and removal of the hose and makes inflating and packing up quick and easy. Testers commented on the Evo’s tight pivot style turning arc, quick turning and crisp steering response. With medium to light bar pressure that’s easy on your arms, the Evo has a very progressive power delivery, excellent depower and solid drift off the wind. Testers commented on the easy water relaunch, especially from the center of the window where pulling on the outside of the bar quickly rotates the kite into launching position. The Evo is often referred to as the 4-line counterpart to the 5-line Rebel, and while the Evo excels in big air hooked-in freestyle, it’s also a very solid choice as an all around freeride kite that will perform in the waves and cruising on a foilboard.

The Evo comes with the Quad Control Trust Bar which is a dual adjustable length bar (42/49cm and 46/53cm) that comes with four line length options: 19m and 22m lines on the 42/49cm bar and 24m and 27m lines on the 46/53cm bar. This bar features a single center-line safety depower, spectra sheeting/throw line with a sliding stopper, high V, above the bar cam cleat that can be adjusted to accommodate longer throw length without disturbing the kite’s tuning, as well as a Velcro tuning handle which keeps tuning slack out of the way when in under depowered conditions. The push away quick release features a plastic molded loop and finger lock, as well as a below the bar hand swivel which doubles as a quick release travel guard. The integrated floats and bar ends are padded and provide sufficient space for easy winding and allow riders to adjust the length of the outside lines for stretch or tuning. The Quad Control bar is a favorite of Tkb staff and earned high praise for its slick combination of comfort and functional performance oriented features in a lightweight and durable design design.
