Last summer, Finnish riders Mikko Lindholm and Markku Mastomäki decided to build themselves Hawaiian style Alaia boards. There is a nice flat water spot named Kalvik not far from where they live in Helsinki and they figured this would’ve been a fun little board for a warm lightwind summer’s day. However, their summer became increasingly busy and they didn’t have time to test the boards before winter surprised them and covered the Baltic Sea with a layer of thick ice. Finally, a few weeks ago after a long wait there was a hole in the ice covering their favorite spot just big enough to go out and test the boards. The water was nice, flat, refreshing as hell, and the guys were stoked… for the whole 20 mins they managed to stay in the icy water!
