“Fastest turning kite of the kites I tested in this group! The whole set up is tailored to someone who likes small bar inputs and large kite movements. Small bar input=fast turns. Large bar input = kite loops. The bar pressure is extremely light and I needed to sine the kite get moving. Testers across the board gave the Flite high praise for its turning speed, light to medium bar pressure and impressive upwind performance. The Flite doesn’t offer a ton of low-end/grunty park and ride power, instead it delivers its pull from quick across the window speed with rapid turning response which allows the rider to generate a substantial amount of apparent wind and keep this 17m in the middle of the window with good power. For those ultra low wind days, Ocean Rodeo includes 4m line extensions in the bag so you can get the most out of the kite’s low end. Testers praised the Flite for its good upwind ability and recommended this kite for those riders looking for a performance oriented light wind kite that is still fun to jump and carve off the wind.
Ocean Rodeo offers two types of bar: Above the Bar and Below the Bar. Our Flite came with the Above the Bar setup which is a fixed length bar with a double center-line safety depower system, high V, spectra sheeting/throw line, a two part sliding stopper, and an above the bar Clam cleat with integrated bungee to keep excess slack from tangling in depowered conditions. The push away quick release is simple and straightforward with a travel guard but no below the bar hand swivel. Testers liked the bar’s smaller diameter and firmer grip, which has lots of texture and raised ridges at your fingers. The retractable winding bungee and simple bar ends made for a clean and quick put away.
