SLINGSHOT Turbine
Sizes Available: 15, 17m
Sizes Tested: 15, 17m

Slingshot Says:

The 2015 Turbine creates a new definition for what is rideable by getting you up and going in wind speeds as low as 5-6 knots. We attribute the range and versatility of the 2015 Turbine to our proven Open Delta C platform and our 5-point cascading bridle attachment system. This critical combination creates a consistent smooth feel throughout the power stroke along with direct bar input. Proven improvements include an aspect ratio and reduced LE diameter that work together to create more grunt and power without sacrificing turning speed, efficiency or upwind performance.

Our Testers Say:

“Love at first sight. If you are a serious light wind kite surfer, and want a kite that will perform with a high performance surfboard, this is the kite. Using my board to generate speed, and gently edging against the kite, allowed my to move freely on a LOST Whiplash (read: low volume, high rocker). The Turbine is a 14 m Rally on steroids, without the instant depower. I see 4-6’ days at Tourmaline in 10 knots on the horizon,” Donovan Brown.

TKB Says:

New for this year Slingshot added a 15m size to the tried and true 17m Turbine dedicated light wind kite. The 17m pulls like a truck in the lightest of wind and offers bigger riders the chance to get out in minimal winds, while the 15m is targeted for medium riders that are looking for greater performance in threshold conditions. The new 15m received high praise for its perfect blend of low-end power, turning speed, and super stability. Testers felt the 17m offered improved upwind ability over previous models and both kites demonstrated one of the easiest relaunches of the test. The Turbine’s relaunch from directly down wind was amazingly easy in even the most extreme light wind conditions.

SLINGSHOT-RPM-BAR-2015-GEAR-REVIEW-04

The Turbine came with the Compstick, a simple yet feature rich fixed length bar (43, 50, 58cm) that uses a single center-line safety depower, spectra sheeting/throw line, low V, sliding stopper and below the bar cleat tuning integrated into the push away quick release. There’s no travel guard or below the bar hand swivel but the quick release is compact and keeps a large amount of throw travel within reach of the rider. There’s an above the bar swivel, adjustable length throw and the only bar in our test that featured dual outside line OS handles. Testers liked the smaller diameter grip, mild texture and raised volcano at the insert to avoid pinched fingers. Many of our testers were not familiar with below the bar tuning, but by placing it on the side of your favored arm and sheeting out when adjusting it’s fairly easy to trim the kite.
