Brand Says:

The Obsession is our iconic kite that embodies power/de-power ability/ fast turning speed and huge hangtime, all in one package. It’s been our best selling kite since day thanks to a light bar feel and a very quick response to the bar inputs. It jumps great, keeping you in the air longer than you could expect, and still keeps its easy depower feel when a stronger wind gust hits the kite.

This year we have slightly changed the foil profile of the Obsession and made it a bit flatter throughout the tip area, enabling the kite to be turning faster and also be more efficient to flying into the wind window.

Our Testers Say:

“Had the upwind ability and hangtime of high-aspect kite with good stability and medium turning speed with a bar that has thicker Q-line style flying lines,” Dray Murray.

“Very easy kite to jump, handles gusts well and is super stable with medium plus bar pressure. Great all around kite for the beginner to intermediate riders,” John Steimle.

“Very stable with solid boost and hang time, good mid range kite with average turning speed and a comfortable bar,” Pat O’Connor.

RRD-OBSESSION-2015-GEAR-REVIEW-02

TKB Says:

The Obsession is a 5-strut medium aspect kite with swept back wingtips that earned solid marks for dependability and ease of use. The Obsession inflates quickly with a high flow Boston valve that requires the bigger nozzle attachment that comes standard with all pumps. The Obesssion features a single setting front bridle with pulley and a single steering setting on the wingtip for a simple no tuning required approach. Tester’s praised the Obsession for its predictable steering, user-friendly boosting, solid stability and good upwind ability. Testers commented on the Obsession’s middle of the road turning speed and middle to plus bar pressure and overall, gave the Obsession solid points for its quick relaunch, ease of use and its low-end power.

RRD-OBSESSION-BAR-2015-GEAR-REVIEW-04

The Obsession came with the Global Bar 6 which is a dual adjustable length bar (47, 56cm with 23m lines) that features a double center-line depower safety system, high V, a durable plastic depower/throw line, above the bar Clam cleat with bungee built into the tuning handle to prevent excess slack from tangling during depowered conditions. The push away quick release is a simple design with a below the bar/below the quick release hand swivel that is not the easiest to access but does keep the design tight, functional and efficient. Testers liked the overall simplicity of the bar with its medium diameter, smooth grip and retractable winder bungees and plenty of space to wrap the lines for a clean put away.
