Ozone Says:

For the 2015 season we have refined the Catalyst’s leading edge sweep, recalculated the sail tension and worked on every little detail to further improve the feeling and performance. The Catalyst is a confidence inspiring kite, the true do it all kite because it performs equally well in all aspects of the sport, satisfying a wide variety of riders and styles.

For Freeriders the Catalyst continues to please no matter what board you choose to ride on the day. From twintip, surfboard or foil board the Catalyst’s smooth power delivery, refined predictable handling and excellent de-power allows the rider to relax and enjoy the ride. The Catalyst is an amazing Freestyle starting block delivering consistent feeling and performance, with its Open-C design offering a subtle C-kite feel without being too aggressive. These attributes make progress easy from your first unhooked moves, kite loops and right up to advanced unhooked riding.

Our Testers Say:

“Very stable user-friendly kite, does everything from boosting to flying upwind well with a little slower turning speed,” Marko Bartscherer.

“The shape is very C-like, goes upwind well with more bar pressure than the Edge, middle of the road boosting and lots of hangtime,” Davey Beard.

“Great all around kite, does everything well, with heavier bar pressure made it easy to tell what the kite was doing without looking at the kite,” Aaron Stephens.

TKB Says:

The Catalyst is a 3-strut medium aspect kite that comes with high flow Boston valve that requires the larger inflation nozzle, a single setting fixed front bridle and three steering settings on the wingtips. Testers praised the Catalyst for its easy upwind ability, and predictable and easy boosting. Testers liked its slightly heavier bar pressure and found the steering speed to be middle of the road. Compared to the Reo, testers felt the Catalyst creates more lift for boosting and flies to the edge of the wind a little faster.

OZONE-CATALYST-BAR-2015-GEAR-REVIEW-04

Ozone didn’t have the 2015 Contact Control System in stock in time for our test so we tested the Catalyst with last year’s bar which is a fixed length bar (45, 50, 55cm). This clean yet functional bar features a single center line safety depower, plastic coated depower/throw line, and an above bar depower cleat. The push away quick release features a hand operated quick release swivel that doubles as a travel guard. Testers liked the simplicity of the bar and attention to detail like the disappearing bar end bungees. Some testers thought the quick release required some extra finesse to reset in the water, but we think that could be resolved with greater familiarity with the mechanism.
