REGINA, Saskatchewan January 2015 Ample snow, bright sunshine and copious amounts of wind are all the elements required for world-class kiteboarding, and Regina is one great place for it in North America. On February 14th, for the first time ever, Red Bull Kite Farm – an endurance snow kite event – will be taking place in Saskatchewan, which is considered to be a perfect playground for kiteboarding in the winter season. The event site will be located only 3 minutes northwest of Regina off Hwy 11, a location renowned to Saskatchewan kiters for its rolling prairie terrain and 30’ cliff of powder leading into the creek bed.
North American riders will be competing against Saskatchewan’s home-grown talent in a minimum 50km endurance race (10 laps at 5km/lap). The winners in both ski and snowboard division will win an all-expense paid trip to Norway to represent North America at Red Bull Ragnarok in April 2015. Riders will be faced with unique natural and man-made on-course features that will test their skills and push their endurance to the limit. Saskatchewan’s unpredictable weather and wind patterns in February will also humble even the best athletes.
The endurance race is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2015. If necessary, a back-up endurance race with scaled-back activities for the public will take place Sunday, February 15, 2015, due to wind and weather variables.
