AIRUSH LITHIUM ZERO 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW 01

AIRUSH Lithium Zero
Sizes Available: 18m
Sizes Tested: 18m

Airush Says:

The Airush Lithium 18m Zero takes the concept of making lighter kites to a new level by eliminating all struts. With four years of development along side the Airush One, the result of reducing struts and overall weight highlights the obvious benefit, resulting in the most innovative light-win d kites on the market. At 3.4 kg the Lithium Zero is comparable in weight to a regular 10m kite.

Large kites do not need to be sluggish and slow. Quick and lively, the Airush Lithium Zero, eliminates unnecessary material and drag, making response and steering effortless and fun. Boasting unbeatable power to weight ratio the Lithium Zero’s jumping and hang-time capabilities are amazing.

Our Testers Say:

“I really enjoyed this kite, it’s very light and easy to turn with an intelligent design for light wind places like San Diego,” Greg Vasilieff.

“Smooth flying, fast turning, but doesn’t seem to fully depower when sheeted out in higher winds,” Jeff Quick.

Very powerful, works best in extremely light conditions, otherwise you have to work hard to get upwind,” Clint Sterba.

TKB Says:

The Lithium Zero is a medium-low aspect strutless kite that is the largest of all the kites in this year’s light wind test. The Lithium Zero features the standard 9mm inflation / 11mm dump valves, double ripstop trailing edge, five rear pigtail knots and one front pigtail knot, with two turning speed attachment settings on the wingtip as well as a non-adjustable front bridle which is fairly long in length. The Lithium Zero has tons of low-end power when properly sheeted, medium bar pressure and good turning speed for a kite of its size. Strutless kites tend to offer ambiguous sheeting feedback, but the Lithium Zero sheeted more like a standard kite, and earned solid praise for its performance in the lowest winds.

AIRUSH LITHIUM ZERO 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW BAR

The Lithium Zero came with the Smart Bar 5 which features impressive telescoping bar length adjustability, plastic depower/throw line, sliding stopper, above the bar depower strap with extension handles and a clean and crisp push away quick release. This bar is one of the few that combines the longevity of a plastic coated depower/throw line with an adjustable stopper. Our freeride reviewers noted the clutter of the handles, but the tuning controls worked very well and allow for a bigger adjustable length throw. The telescoping bar came in its fully extended length and is simple and easy to adjust to smaller kites, but the longer length was ideal for getting impressive turning response out of the Lithium 18m Zero.
