Our Testers Say:

“This kite is great for beginner or intermediate riders who want to start advancing their riding for jumping or swell,” Cherie Costello.

“Solid pull, quick steering response and loved jumping with it- the perfect all around kite,” Marko Bartscherer.

“Great all around kite which goes upwind well, pulls through turns and flies fast; the bar is fantastic,” Eric McAuliffe.

Meet the 2014 TKB Test Team.

TKB Says:

The 2014 Catalyst is a 3-strut medium aspect kite that Ozone markets as a versatile performer for freeride, freestyle and surfing in the waves. It features a large diameter inflation valve that requires the bigger nozzle that comes standard with all pumps, making inflation and deflation quick and easy. Testers felt the Catalyst had lighter bar pressure and praised it for its stable handling and quick turning speed. They also found it predictable and user friendly with precise steering response and appreciated the Catalyst for its above average boosting and good hangtime. Compared to the Edge, the Catalyst turns much faster and will excel in all aspects of freestyle and surfing while the Edge excels at screaming upwind and boosting big air.

The Catalyst came with the Contact Control System which is a fixed length bar (45, 50, 55cm). This clean yet functional bar features a new push away quick release, plastic coated depower/throw line, single center line safety depower, above bar depower cleat, and a hand operated quick release swivel. Testers liked the simplicity of the bar and attention to detail like the disappearing bar end bungees. Some testers thought the quick release required some extra finesse to reset in the water, but we think that could be resolved with greater familiarity with the mechanism.
