The Kiteboarder Magazine is pleased to announce the selection of its new Editor, Brendan Richards.

With 13 years of kiteboarding experience, Brendan is no newcomer to the sport. Progressing from enthusiast to sponsored team rider, Brendan has spent the last seven years handling the public relations, marketing and customer service for Santa Cruz-based Caution Kites.  His industry work has exposed him to all aspects of design, manufacturing, marketing and sales of kiteboarding products as well as the diverse technical media and content creation skills that are required of the magazine’s editor.  In addition, Brendan has owned and operated a small but successful kite school in Santa Cruz and has contributed to The Kiteboarder Magazine for various instructional topics throughout the years.

Brendan’s strong visual and written technical skills combined with his longstanding experience building print, video and online content in kiteboarding and other action sports made him the ideal candidate to drive the editorial department of The Kiteboarder forward as the magazine marks its 10-year anniversary in 2014, said publisher Marina Chang.  “With our focus on long-form feature stories which maintain the highest standard of in depth journalism and iconic imagery, I am excited to see what Brendan has in store for readers and supporters of our publications.”

The Kiteboarder is a coffee table quality publication presented in a large format driven by compelling photography and limited ad clutter. Founded by kiteboarders with a passion for the sport, the magazine focuses on the people, places, culture, and lifestyle that make kiters so stoked about the sport.

In 2011, The Kiteboarder went through a major format change. The print magazine is now the place devoted to full length, in depth feature stories on travel, personalities and other topics we think will interest our readers presented in an oversized, clean format. All instruction, travel guides and gear previews/reviews are now online in the form of e-mags so consumers have immediate access to the info they want instead of  ‘one size fits all’.  Interested in charging the surf? We have two travel guides that focus on fall/winter and spring/summer travel targeted with recommendations for budget, luxury, family, beginner, flat water and wave destinations.

The Kiteboarder also partners with Xtreme Big Air for the annual Pismo Beach Kitexpo (April), the largest kiteboarding demo event on the West Coast as well as Lord of the Wind in Baja Mexico (January).
