Athletes 4 Cancer announces the 6th Annual Kiteboarding 4 Cancer July 13-15, 2012!
Fighting Cancer through Adventure

Athletes 4 Cancer is excited to announce our 6th Annual Kiteboarding 4 Cancer (KB4C), taking place in beautiful Hood River, Oregon July 13-15, 2012. As North America’s largest amateur kiteboarding event, KB4C is part of the Tenacity Games, a year-long series of action-sport events that fund raise for Athletes for Cancer’s Adventure-based Survivorship Program.

The Kite Derby

Kiteboarding 4 Cancer challenges the tenacity of the most advanced and novice kiters alike with a 6-hour Endurance Race The Kite Derby. Set with the stunning backdrop of Hood River and Mt. Hood, the event takes place around a 2-mile course on the Columbia River with variable wind and swell conditions.

What makes the KB4C Kite Derby unique to any other kiteboarding event is its format: Athlete kiters can come in and go out of the water at any time during the race, making it nearly impossible for each athlete to know where exactly they are in the pack. However, athletes typically kiteboard for the full 6 hours, never getting off the water. Kite and board selection become an essential factor in finish.

Relay-on-the-Green

A hit at the 2011 KB4C, the Team Relay race is an incredible event for spectators and participants alike! With all the action happening right at the beach, the relay gives a whole new meaning to kiteboarding as an individual sport. Teams consist of 4 racers, one kite, and one board. That is all the information that is given to teams until the pre-race meeting on the day of the race. Limited to just 12 teams, this event is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The goal of Kiteboarding 4 Cancer is to raise funds for the Athletes for Cancer Survivorship Program that helps cancer fighters and survivors ages 18-40 rebuild their lives after cancer. The mantra of the event is to take on a unique challenge and endure to the point of exhaustion, testing both mental and physical tenacity, embodying the struggle someone going through cancer faces every day. With this in mind, we encourage everyone to fundraise just a minimum of $250 in donations to participate. Alternatively, there will be a simple registration fee announced to participate. Top fundraisers and finishers will receive very cool prizes.

Athletes for Cancer would like to thank our 2011 Kiteboarding 4 Cancer sponsors Team Duke, Providence Hood River, Patagonia, Liquid Force, Vela Kitesurf Resorts, Full Sail Brewing, Slingshot Kites, Cabrinha Kites, 2nd Wind Sports, Airtime, UPS Store Hood River, Dakine, North Kiteboarding, SBC Kiteboard, Kiteboarding Magazine, Apple Valley Country Store, Emergen-C, Water from the Hood, and Clif Bar.
