At 11 am on Thursday, January 20, a kiteboarding first will happen when emcee Neil Hutchinson and the legendary Baja Joe kick off the annual La Ventana Classic and KiteXpo by skydiving into the event. The jump will be charity fundraiser that helps out the local schools and community. Bets will be taken where you guess how close to the pink hula hoop either Neil or Joe will land. Bets can be placed at the mandatory riders/vendor Skipper’s Meeting on Wednesday, January 19, at the Palapas Ventana Restaurant starting at 7 pm, and also at registration on Expo Beach starting at 10 am on Thursday, January 20, up to minutes before they land. Betting will be done by picking predetermined distance squares from a board, e.g. 1 foot, 1 foot 6 inches and so on so once a bet is placed, that distance will be gone. The winner will take 20% of the total proceeds raised along with 24 frosty beers — the balance will benefit the local schools and community projects.
