Professional Kiteboarder and Canadian Sam Medysky shreds the flat waters of Brazil.
This week, The Kiteboarder Magazine interviews guests Tim Hatler of Palapas Ventana, Marie LeClerc from Elevation Kiteboarding/Baja Joe’s, and John Ashley from Paddlesurf.net on the upcoming La Ventana Classic and Kite/SUP Expo.
Most kiters put their equipment away till the next summer and reintroduce themselves to their non-kiting friends and family, while a few head to Baja for the winter or some exotic kite vacation. But a core group of San Francisco kiters look to fall, winter and spring as a time for a different kiting experience, where big waves and wild winds at a number of key spots make for some of the best kiting of the year.

The Camas Valley is a snowkite area close to Fairfield, Idaho, that spreads over several hundred square miles and includes Sun Valley. Riders will find diverse terrain with some launch areas on expansive flats and others nestled into humbling mountain basins.
My brother Jeff and I were born in Anchorage, Alaska where we were raised on a healthy diet of snowmobiling, skiing and snowboarding. We discovered snowkiting in 1999 while living in Colorado, and it opened our eyes to a whole new way to have fun in the snow. After many years of exploring spots around the “Lower 48” states, our friend John Tompkins of Kite Alaska sent us a video from a snowkiting trip he had taken around our home turf.

Situated on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic, Saona Island is a pristine tropical paradise that has been featured in many movies and commercials.
La Ventana is a great place to take a kiteboarding vacation, but it’s also much more than that. It’s a great home base from which you can explore all that Southern Baja has to offer, just a short drive away.
The 2010 event has been extended to 8 days to offer day trips/clinics early week with the main event happening January 20-24.
