They would score the swell of the decade, but they were just visitors here. The swell gave the local crew, who grew up poor and learned to ride on donated gear, their chance to shine.

Organizers and competitors gathered at McGee Beach in Corpus Christi, TX, for the final day of the 2010 IKA World Kite Racing Championship not knowing what to expect.
Corpus Christi, TX, is known as one of the most consistently windy spots in the USA but for Day 3 of the IKA Kite Course Racing Championship, did not deliver.
Today was a completely different day for the 34 racers from 14 countries participating in the 2010 IKA World Kite Racing Championship.
Corpus Christi showed its classic windy side today, with wind speeds ranging from 17-32 knots. The entire fleet was challenged constantly as conditions were extreme.
Things are shaping up for the start of the 2010 IKA World Racing Championship in Corpus Christi, TX, April 22-25.
This year, why not do things a little differently? Here in the US, we have easy access to some of the best snowkiting available on the planet. Why head halfway across the globe, when we have such a great resource right in our own backyard?
Head 20 minutes south from San Diego on I-5 and you will find yourself in a wildly different place. As soon as you cross under the large green, white, and red sign that reads “MEXICO,” make sure you line up in one of the “Nothing to Declare” lanes and hope for a green light.

Most kiters put their equipment away till the next summer and reintroduce themselves to their non-kiting friends and family, while a few head to Baja for the winter or some exotic kite vacation. But a core group of San Francisco kiters look to fall, winter and spring as a time for a different kiting experience, where big waves and wild winds at a number of key spots make for some of the best kiting of the year.
The Camas Valley is a snowkite area close to Fairfield, Idaho, that spreads over several hundred square miles and includes Sun Valley. Riders will find diverse terrain with some launch areas on expansive flats and others nestled into humbling mountain basins.
