July 10, 2016

 2014-7-6Windbives-13
Windvibes is the Island’s largest watersports event and it annually attracts some of the best kiteboarders from around the world. This amateur watersports event combining the sports of kiteboarding, kayaking, stand up paddling, swimming and windsurfing and draws hundreds of spectators beachside. Not only will they have these events going on, but organisers have also many family friendly beach games through the day.

This grassroots event was started back in 2007 with the goal of promoting fun, active and healthy watersports activities for the locals. As it’s gained popularity over the years,  they have begun to use it as a platform for the good of the entire Turks & Caicos Community. Last they raised over $10,000 for the Turks & Caicos National Trust.

To celebrate their 10th year, they have set a goal to raise $100,000 for ten local charities, splitting it up and giving each one $10,000. In order to raise these much needed funds, they have broken it up into three events.

The first event starting on Friday June 10th with the Windvibes Gala with a formal evening of entertainment and fundraising featuring professional Violinist Dave Kim of San Francisco. The second will be a walking parade in Grace Bay on Saturday 9th July, with kick-off the event. This will be in the Grace Bay Area, starting at the art project near the Seven Stars roundabout and going to the Sands Roundabout.

Finally the Windvibes day itself will be held on Sunday 10th July at Long Bay Beach near the Shore Club with attendance by this international athletes like Olympic windsurfer and international kiteboarding personality Brian Talma known as “deAction Man”. Also attending are professional kiteboarders Susi Mai from Cabarete, Dominican Republic and Andre Philip of Antigua.
