The 2016 Apex is a higher rocker board with a single venturi concave through to the tips that features three holes for adjusting stance width and a new footbed/pad system that offers a good amount of rotation for adjusting duck. The Apex has a contoured deck for controlled flex, which testers found a little more stiffer than the Switch, which makes this board deliver in the load and pop department when you commit. Compared to the Switch, the Apex has straighter rails and the tail is wider, boxier and hits the chop a bit more creating more spray, but the straighter outline and rocker makes this board go upwind through La Ventana’s choppy conditions extremely well. The straps are the same as last year with dual adjustment Velcro, but the footbed of the pad has a little more texture, yet soft and rubbery for a confidence inspiring grip that is not only comfy, but will keep the board on your feet during serious g-force inducing moves.
