In an event that took place this past September, even the best of the best kiteboarders were taken way out of their comfort zones. The Red Bull Rally dos Ventos provided equal parts kiteboarding, sand surfing, and running. It was a full on navigational challenge. Competitors set out on a lagoon-filled race course in a state-owned desert, far in the north of Brazil. The race director didn’t reveal the course until the day of the race, when 45 kiters set out from the start with GPS units and compasses in hand, in search of the finish line (literally). Brazilian Best team rider, Alex Neto, approached the course strategically and won, finishing in 37 minutes, while it took other competitors hours to complete.

We look forward to seeing what crazy course Red Bull designs for next year’s event!
