STAR TAINA 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW

STAR Taina
Sizes Available: 5.5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 17m
Sizes Tested: 17m

Star Says:

The Taina is for riders who demand performance over the broadest range of conditions; however, due to its incredible turning speed, grunt, and depower, this kite is especially a dream come true for wave riders. The Taina reacts so well that you can steer it with one hand on the bar while surfing the waves. The Taina has great downwind drift with precise steering response and huge depower.

Due to its super easy relaunch and the ease of steering input, this kite is also perfect for kite schools or beginners. Its profile is shaped in a way that makes it impossible to stall, allowing a student to focus on the ride instead of the trimming. All in all, the Taina is a perfect all-terrain kite with special performance for the waves, using this kite will keep you stoked during your endless sessions.

STAR TAINA 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW

Our Testers Say:

“The Taina kept me on the water when everybody else went in powers up fast, goes good upwind,” Greg Vasilieff.

“Very fun, turns great for a big kite, stable, goes upwind with good depower ability,” Jeff Quick.

“Solid power, good all around, bar is my least favorite,” Marko Bartscherer.

TKB Says:

The Taina is a 3-strut medium to low-aspect kite with swept-back wingtips. The Taina comes with two 9mm valves on the center of the leading edge and a new dump valve on one wingtip. The Taina is the only kite in our test which requires each strut to be inflated separately, which although reduces weight does add additional yet small steps to inflation. Testers praised the Taina for its impressive low-end power in the lightest of wind conditions, above average turning speed and good upwind ability. Testers commented on the Taina’s medium bar pressure and middle of the road boost and hangtime and recommended this kite as a good all-around light wind kite for freestyle and kiting in the waves.

STAR TAINA 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW

The Taina came with the Nex Bar which features a plastic push away quick release, durable plastic depower/throw line, single center line safety depower, above bar tuning strap, hand operated below bar swivel, and adjustable length bar ends. Testers commented on the bar’s unrefined and simple construction as well as the longer throw length, but despite its overall plain look, this bar will appeal to those riders seeking a functional yet lightweight bar with a longer throw length.
