NORTH NUGGET 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW

NORTH Nugget
Sizes Available: 5’2″, 5’5”
Sizes Tested: 5’5″ x 21″ x 2-7/16″

North Says:

Sometimes you just want to go out and have fun, even when the wind doesn’t quite deliver, or the waves aren’t as big as predicted. The Nugget is the answer! It’s a playful board with a wide outline and plenty of volume to get you going early. A quad fin set up helps to keep the board loose and allow you to really throw it about in small waves. Great for strapless freestyle, the short length makes rotations and spins really easy. Don’t get bummed by the conditions, get a Nugget and have fun all the time!

Our Testers Say:

“Fun, fast and playful! Easy to gybe with excellent upwind ability,” Jeff Quick.

“High quality, smooth ride, goes great upwind, my favorite light wind board,” Alfredo Maguyon.

“Nice stable strapless board, good construction, great mushy wave board or bay cruiser,” Clint Sterba.

TKB Says:

The 2014 Nugget is a wide and round-shaped surfboard with substantial volume that earned high praise from our light wind testers. The Nugget feels light in your hands, yet durable which is a credit to North’s bamboo tech/composite construction. The quad fin configuration comes with larger size fins which help drive the Nugget upwind and the rails have a gutter for strapless airs and easy board grabs. Testers commented on the Nugget’s overall playful handling as well as its fast speed through the water. Testers found its wide template easy to gybe and fantasized about how fun it would be in small to medium size surf because our test was confined to flat water. Overall, testers recommended the Nugget as a fun light wind option, great for cruising and potentially a ripper in glassy light wind surf.

NORTH NUGGET 2014 LIGHTWIND REVIEW

Our Nugget came with the standard tail kick pad and North sent us the optional front deck pad as an additional accessory for the Nugget. Testers found the pads comfortable with a good balance between traction, thickness and direct feel. Straps are an optional accessory as well, most testers found the Nugget extremely user friendly and preferred riding strapless.
