Cabrinha Says:

There is only one kite which has embodied the true spirit of kiteboarding for the last 8 years for its spot-on performance in such a wide range of conditions. The Switchblade humbly takes the title of the highest performance kite with the easiest handling. But we are not about to rest on our laurels. In 2014 the Switchblade gets an upgrade in handling with an all new bridling that provides an even more direct and precise steering. Changes in outline and profile ensure that the 2014 Switchblade delivers power on the low end and precise handling and control on the top end.

Our Testers Say:

“Awesome boost and good at nearly everything with one of the best bars on the market, although flared bar ends may take time to get used to for some,” Jeff Senne.

“Efficient kite that generates good power when it accelerates, lighter bar pressure than last years with quicker turning and great loft,” Davey Beard.

“Great all around riding and freestyle kite, huge boosts and hang time, but need more time to understand quick release,” Frank Russo.

Meet the 2014 TKB Test Team.

TKB Says:

The Switchblade is a medium aspect 5-strut kite marketed as an all-around freestyle kite. The inflation system features a large diameter valve that universally fits any pump hose with no nozzle and makes inflating and deflating a dream. Compared to the Vector, the Switchblade offers an impressive amount of boost and hangtime. Testers liked the Switchblade’s steering response, power building in its sweeping turns, easy relaunch and ability to go upwind. This kite was well liked and ideal for freeriders with a desire for boosting big jumps and hangtime.

The Switchblade is offered in a Siren model as well which features a beautifully colored stock Switchblade canopy that appealed to both our men and women testers alike. In addition to the graphics, the Siren comes with a modified Overdrive bar, which features a pink colored bar end and a smaller Chicken loop and shorter depower throw to keep the controls within reach of female riders or those with shorter arms.

The Switchblade came with the Overdrive 49-57cm bar which combines the advantageous leverage of above the bar tuning with longer travel throw while keeping controls well within the rider’s reach by using extension handles in a clean and functional design. The plastic depower/throw line doesn’t include an adjustable stopper but the spring loaded controls act to keep the bar within reach when let go. Testers praised the innovative bar ends for their on the fly adjustable mechanism which allows riders to easily and safely change bar length when desired. The single center line safety system and quick release is more complex than most, but riders who take the time to learn how it functions will like it’s clean mechanism, internal safety depower line and ability to hand rotate the center lines from the quick release.
