TEXAS CITY, TEXAS This March, a local sailing club, the Galveston Bay Cruising Association (GBCA) will team up with Houston Kiteboarding to host the largest kite course racing regatta in all of Texas. The event, nicknamed the “RIB”, is in its second year and already attracting some big name sponsors. Cabrinha and Slingshot have come on this year to join last year’s returning sponsor, Karbach Brewing Company, in support of kite racing on the “Third Coast”.

The regatta is scheduled to take place on March 22, 2014 at the levee in Texas City, Texas. If the forecast looks questionable for Saturday, regatta organizers will make the call to move the event to Sunday, March 23, 2014 with as much advanced notice as possible. Regatta organizers plan to run a “Z” course, a speed trap race and the always-popular freestyle competition to be judged by coaches from Houston Kiteboarding. Helmets and event t-shirts with an entry number are required to race.

Visitors can watch the action from the levee. The City of Texas City charges a $5.00 fee for plenty of grassy area to use for spectating. Food and drink (beer and ribs!) will also be available to visitors at $20 per person. If onlookers are interested in learning to kiteboard, Houston Kiteboarding will be on hand all day to register individuals for classes the following day.
