Slingshot Says:

For 2014 the new Rally is faster, more maneuverable, and offers better low-end power making it the most efficient and user friendly kite in the world. Find out for yourself why so many riders trust the Rally. The 2014 Rally boasts an updated airframe featuring our own unique patented Splitstrut construction making it the most stable kite in the industry. Each size is more powerful and efficient than last year with a new aspect ratio. The bomber construction on the Rally focuses on Surf Tough Seams to create more strength and structure throughout the canopy. It also helps to isolate any damage making repair easy. Our Tri-Tech Protection includes Ballistic Kevlar, Mark Cloth, and Neoprene strategically placed in the most vulnerable areas of the kite to optimize durability. We do all of this to make sure you don’t ever miss a session.

TKB Says:

The 2014 Slingshot Rally looks similar to the 2013 Rally, but there have been a number of changes made to the kite. The 2014 Rally is a 5-strut kite with 3 of the struts integrated into the canopy (splitstrut).

The front bridle features no pulleys and the rear line connection points are adjustable to change the kite’s steering speed and bar pressure. The Rally remains a fairly flat delta-style kite (Slingshot calls it an Open Delta-C).

Over the past few years our testers have really liked the Rally’s amazing stability, and the Rally’s stability remains great for 2014. This kite has great downwind drift and simply will not fall out of the sky even when carving downwind with a lot of speed. This trait alone makes it well-suited and very forgiving in the surf.

The Rally also features easy relaunching and great low-end power. Upwind and jumping performance are good with medium bar pressure.

Compared to the 2013 Rally the 2014 version feels like it has slightly quicker and more direct handling. The low end power also feels improved.

The Slingshot Compstick control bar has been updated for 2014 and features an all-new quick release and trim adjuster. The Compstick features an above-bar swivel, adjustable stopper, push-away quick release, and below-bar trim adjuster.

While the trim adjuster is easier to use than previous versions, it can be difficult to pull the trim line with the kite at full power. TKB suggests hooking in with the trim line on your dominant side to make it a little easier to use. Our 8m test kite shipped with a 17” bar and 20m lines.

Pros:

  • Amazing stability and very easy to fly.
  • Very easy to relaunch.
  • Great wind range, especially the low-end power.

Cons:

  • Depower line can be difficult to trim, especially when overpowered.
