Following four days of marginal wind and waves, the action kicked off on October 23 ”” mid-way through the 10-day holding period. As the surf began firing at four- to seven-feet, 24 men and 12 women from 15 different countries duked it out over the following three days for the coveted tour stop title.

Two days of competition boiled the men’s field down to the final eight riders, where ultimately, seasoned veteran Sky Solbach (USA) faced 19-year-old Filippe Ferreira (Brazil) for third place, and Airton Cozzolino (Italy) ”” who won the Mauritius One Eye Pro in September ”” squared off with reigning Kite Surfing World Champion Guilly Brandao (Brazil) for first place. Ferreira beat out Solbach by a slim margin of .47 points (out of 20), while Brandao earned the highest score of the whole competition (17) and secured the Pacasmayo Peru Kite Surf Pro title.

On the women’s front, Kelly Strachan (USA) faced off with three-time Kite Surfing World Champion Kirsty Jones (United Kingdom) for third place, and Ines Correia (Portugal) met the Brazilian powerhouse Milla Knesse-Ferreira for first place. Jones beat Strachan by 3.7 points, while Knesse-Ferreira bested Correia by more than five points.

With two of three tour stops complete, the Europeans hold a majority of top-three Overall World Championship Rankings, as Airton Cozzolino (Italy) currently leads the men’s pack, and Ines Correia (Portugal), Marie Gautron (France) and Kristin Boese (Germany) hold down first, second and third places in the women’s division.
