Hood River, OR ”” If wealth were measured by the number and quality of friends one cultivates over a life time, Peg Lalor would be a very rich woman indeed! Yet all it took was a split-second accident last year to change this once local entrepreneur’s life.

Struck by a car in June 2010 while cycling to work in downtown Calgary (Alberta, Canada), Peg Lalor sustained an extremely severe brain injury. She was in a coma for 6 weeks, emerging very slowly to face what medical staff at Foothills Hospital suggested was a very poor prognosis.

Quitting has never been part of Peg Lalor’s psyche though. She is determined to beat the odds and has already surpassed many expectations set by Foothills staff late last summer. Peg Lalor first came to Hood River in 1983 while competing on the professional windsurfing circuit. In 1991, she moved to Mosier, Oregon. Five years later she founded the Gorge Games.

In 2005, Peg Lalor attempted to bring a hotel/conference center /spa/adventure park to Hood River’s waterfront. Though the Hood River Port Commission and Port of The Dalles eventually rejected Lalor’s plan, Peg remained undeterred. She moved back to Canada to work more closely with her business partner, promoting the Xventure concept in other markets. On the side, Lalor was developing a new concept of her own called Water Bottle Solutions. The ‘Water Bar’, part of the Water Bottle Solutions concept, was to provide consumers with a plastics free alternative to buying bottled water.

Peg Lalor has been a patient at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury in Ponoka, Alberta, for the past ten months and continues to pour heart and soul into relearning life’s most basic skills. Peg’s display of quick wit and sense of humor continue to inspire those around her.

As difficult as this time has been, Peg feels very blessed to have such an extensive network of family and friends to buoy her spirits when things get tough. One such group of friends in Hood River are now busy organizing a Welcome Back Fundraiser to help this dynamic entrepreneur quite literally get back on her feet. A fundraising Party, PEG LALOR ROCKS is planned for July 8 at the Hood River Inn’s Gorge Room at 7:30 pm with music by the classic Gorge Band, The Ultronz! Admittance is by donation and everyone is welcome and invited to support Peg’s recovery.
