This Summer:

The Pacific Northwest has a ton of events for you to enjoy and participate in from jaw-dropping kiteboarding action to old school/big air competitions to cause-related course/boarder/endurance racing. This week our guests on The Kiteboarder Magazine and ASNews.net weekly podcast are the co-founder of Kiteboarding for Cancer, Tonia Farman, and kite event director for the Gorge Games, Dave Tyburski. Since Dave is also a PKRA judge, this interview will be prerecorded as Dave is currently in the DR for the Cabarete tour stop. KB4C (Kiteboarding for Cancer) was launched in 2007 by co-founders Tonia Farman and Dr. Garrett Zalen. An endurance style kite derby, last year’s event surprised all and raised a whopping $62K for cancer organizations! What’s new for this year, what are the prizes and how can you help? Tonia will answer all these questions and more as she ramps up for the 2nd annual event at the Hood River event site Aug 9 and 10. The Gorge Games was founded in 1994 by ex competitive windsurfer Peggy Lalor. The event quickly grew in presitige and popularity until it hit a speed bump in 2005 due to the title sponsor backing out and some other issues. This premier event historically has attracted world class athletes in kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, adventure racing, cycling and more, and this year should be no different! PKRA judge and pro kiteboarder Dave Tyburski will be joining host Ryan Riccitelli to talk about the different disciplines for pro and amateur or aspring pro riders at the Gorge Games, happening July 17 through the 20 in the Columbia Gorge.
